This is the time of year when people are planning their winter holidays to Cape Verde. Winter is the peak time to visit this country and a great time to escape the cold in Europe and North America. You can enjoy the lovely weather and the beaches of islands such as Sal, Boa Vista, Santiago and Maio. Alternatively, the mountains and hiking on Brava, Santo Antão, São Nicolau, Fogo or São Vicente. Recently, there has been an announcement of a change to the covid entry requirements. Although the change seems to be minimal, this is a good time to remind people of the current regulations. These regulations apply to all visitors aged 12 or more.
Visitors to Cape Verde must have had a booster vaccination to be considered fully vaccinated. So this means two normal doses of vaccine plus a booster. If they have had the Janssen vaccine then only one dose plus a booster is required. The booster must have been administered at least 14 days before travel.
If fully vaccinated, as described, then there is no requirement to have a test or to quarantine. However, proof of vaccination is required when checking in for the flight. For British visitors, Cape Verde requires the printed version of the proof of vaccination. They do not accept the digital version.
If not fully vaccinated as described, then a negative PCR test result taken no more than 72 hours before travel is needed. Alternatively, a negative antigen test taken within 48 hours before travel is required. Or proof of recovery from Covid-19 not less than 11 days and not more than 180 days before travel will be needed.
If travelling between islands the same requirements apply.
If testing positive whilst in Cape Verde they are required to self-isolate for 7 days from the start of the symptoms, or from the day they tested positive.
