It has recently been announced that CV Interilhas is purchasing a roll-on-roll-off ferry. CV Interilhas is the company that organises the ferry services within Cape Verde. The new ship will transport both passengers and cargo and is due to be fitted out to suit the standards required. It is hoped that the boat will come into service during the second half of this year. A new port is being constructed on the island of Maio, which will include roll-on-roll-off facilties. Maybe this new ship is going to operate on the Praia (Santiago island) to Maio route.
CV Interilhas also announced that they might be replacing another ferry by the end of 2021. Some of the existing vessels are old and rather outdated. Some news ferries will improve the experience for people travelling by sea between the islands.
