This is the main beach in Vila do Maio (Porto Inglês) on the island of Maio in the January sunshine. The beach, known locally as Bitxe Rotxa is a long expanse of soft white sand with a glistening sea. Whilst many of those in Europe are experiencing the cold weather of winter, here in Cape Verde the temperature in the shade is around 24ºC at midday. It is the windy season, but that makes for a comfortable temperature and is great for surfers. The weather in Cape Verde is good for almost the entire year.
