University of Cabo Verde

It was announced last week that the new University of Cabo Verde (Universidade de Cabo Verde) campus has been completed. The new campus, in the Palmarejo Grande district of Praia on Santiago island was funded by China. It was due to have been completed by July 2020, but the Covid pandemic resulted in a delay. The new campus is intended to provide great conditions for students, lecturers and technical staff. It is also designed to accommodate the various faculties currently located in various parts of the city.

The new campus is designed to accommodate 4,890 students together with 476 professors in a total of 61 lecture rooms and five auditoriums each seating 150. In addition, there are 8 computer rooms, eight reading rooms, 34 laboratories, a multi-purpose hall seating 654 people, cafeterias, a library, dormitories and sports facilities. The project has cost €45m.

The University also has two other teaching centres in Cabo Verde, one in Assomada (also on Santiago) and another on São Vicente. Courses include vocational, undergraduate degrees, masters and doctorates.
