The Prime Minster of Cape Verde, Ulisses Correia e Silva recently visited the island of Maio to view the progress on the new port. His expectation is that the work will be completed by the end of the year (2021). The roll-on-roll-off facility will shorten the travel distance between Praia and Maio. It will also make for a more pleasant experience for the passengers. He expressed the hope that the new port would herald a new period of development for the island.
He also mentioned that there were some plans for training young people on the island This would prepare them for the proposed future developments. Furthermore, the prime Minister referred to the environmental issues and a need to preserve the sand dunes and the beaches. The plans for an international airport on the island would require partnership with the foreign investors and so far there was no date for that.
