Hot off the press! Cape Verde will be removed from the UK Government’s red list from 4am on Monday 11 October. It is not clear why this has taken so long because the covid levels in Cape Verde have been falling for some time. However, this is excellent news and means that the UK is now in line with many other countries in Europe. People returning to England from Cape Verde who are fully vaccinated will no longer have to quarantine in a government approved hotel. However, they must book a Covid-19 test to be taken two days after return. Also a passenger locator form must be completed during the 48 hours before their return to England. The rules may vary for Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Now what is needed is for operators such as TUI to re-start their flights from the UK to Sal and Boa Vista.
It is already possible to fly from the UK with TAP via Lisbon, but it has to be noted that Portugal does not currently accept the NHS Covid Vaccination Certificate. So, as an alternative, a negative PCR test taken within 72 hours before the flight will be necessary.
So, international travel anywhere is not as simple as it was pre-covid, but for those in the UK who love Cape Verde, this is great news.
