Villa GEMEO Stella Maris Maio has two bedrooms (V2), as well as a tropical garden and perched on top of a cliff with sea views. Stella Maris Maio is a gated community in the main town of the island of Maio (Ilha do Maio). It is in the Ponta Preta area of the small town and sometimes called Stella Maris Village. Inside the property

The property can accommodate a maximum of six people and comprises two double bedrooms, two bathrooms, a dining kitchen, a large open living room and two outdoor terraces (one for sun and one for shade). Bedroom 1 includes a large 200×200 bed with a private bathroom. Bedroom 2 has two single beds 90×190, ideal for children with a separate bathroom. In the large open living room you will find a double sofa bed (Total 4 beds + 1 double sofa bed). The kitchen is fully equipped with everything needed for self-catering. For meals outside on the terrace, there is a large round table with 10 chairs.

In the large open-plan living room you will find a double sofa bed, two sofas and a PHILIPS smart TV. The TV has local channels (+NETFLIX + other apps). We also have free WIFI. The house has a cooling fan in all rooms and the windows have mosquito nets.

Outside the property

There is a large covered terrace for shade, which is supplemented by a separate sun terrace. There is a hammock and the private garden has a mix of tropical plants. Due to its location and orientation, it is sheltered from the prevailing trade winds, so it is warm even during the winter months. It is also exceptionally quiet as no traffic is permitted within the development. On some occasions you may see whales or flying fish from the garden. There is private access to a small isolated sandy beach* accessible by the occupants of the Stella Maris residence by steps embedded in the cliff about fifty meters from the villa.

*Please note: at certain times of the year the waves in Cape Verde can be quite large which can make swimming in the sea difficult. However, this normally does not last more than a day or two. Sometimes in these conditions the sand can shift quite dramatically. The small beach near the villa generally has less sand from June to November and conversely much more sand from December to May. The main beach (Bitxe Rotxa) of Vila do Maio (8 min) and the beach of Ponta Preta (12 min) always have plenty of sand.

The infinity pool is shared with the other residents of Stella Maris and is close and visible from the house – just 20 meters away. Although shared, the pool is uncrowded. You will often have it all to yourself. It looks west over the ocean, so it’s a nice place to relax and watch the sunset. To the right of the pool is the small beach and just below the pool is a rock ledge where you can go fishing or snorkeling depending on the sea conditions. If you are a good swimmer and you have fins, it is possible to swim to the main beach on the right, or even to another small beach on the left accessible only from the sea. We suggest you do this only if the sea is calm.

Improvements

Every time a guest stays we ask how we can improve or if there is anything we can add. As a result, we have added: unlimited wifi; a smart TV; a large computer safe; hammocks; a sunny terrace; a beautiful private tropical garden; direct access to the swimming pool; additional security. To our knowledge, no other accommodation offers all this.

What’s included

The price of your stay includes 1 shower towel and 1 beach towel per person, but if you need more, please ask. Also included are electricity, gas and water as well as essentials for the start of your holiday such as water, toilet paper.

Some guests prefer privacy, while others prefer a regular linen change, so if your stay is longer than a week, an additional weekly linen change can be requested at no extra cost. This can be arranged with the house manager on arrival.

Extra charges

Laundry for personal items is €8.5 for one wash (5kg).

You may also add a number of different activities (diving, fishing, island tours, massage etc).

Tax

Cape Verde Tourist Tax is payable by all adults over the age of 16. The cost is €2 per person per night to a maximum of 10 nights. This will be collected by the House Manager on arrival.

What to expect

Cape Verde is not a wealthy country and Maio is a charming, but simple island. With this in mind it is wise not to expect too much luxury. The house is nice and we have tried to supply everything you need, but outside life is simple, it is well equipped and comfortable.

Shops and restaurants

The house is only 5 minutes walk from the city center of Vila do Maio and shops such as the Kulor Café of our friend Sébastien where you can find everything 6 days a week. As well as many restaurants within a radius of 1km . If you rent a car or a quad, you can park in front of the residence for free in complete safety.
