Heavy rain in Cape Verde

On 09 January we reported on the recent draught in Cape Verde and how there were fears that by October they could be in an emergency situation with water shortage. We have just learned from our associates – Lima Tours in Santo Antão; Bar Tropikal in Maio; and Bailey’s Bar in Santa Maria Sal, that heavy rain has come to Cape Verde. This picture is of a river in Santo Antão that is usually dry, but is now a torrent of water. Farmers and gardeners and in fact most people in this normally dry country will be delighted to have some heavy rain. It will help with the production of locally grown food and grass for the cattle to eat. This is the rainy season, but in recent years there has been almost no rain at all. Hopefully this will alleviate the problems that were anticipated for this Autumn.
